Good to know

Using a menstrual cup is easier than you might think as insertion is similar to inserting a tampon. Like with anything new, give yourself time to get used to the new product and choose a relaxing setting to practice insertion and removal until you find the most comfortable way for you. It may take a few times to get it right, and you might even want to practice when you are not on your period.

Check out our How to use a Menstrual Cup guide to see the top ways to make the change from tampons to cups, and simple steps to start using a Ruby Cup.
A Ruby Cup is a menstrual cup that comes with a generous handful of benefits that traditional methods just can’t offer. Here are just a few:

*Eco-friendly: a Ruby Cup can be re-used for up to 10 years;

*Affordable: because a Ruby Cup lasts up to 10 years, you’ll rake in long-term savings of more than 95% compared to disposable period products;

*Less fuss: a Ruby Cup has 3 times the capacity of a super tampon. Depending on the heaviness of the menstrual flow it can be worn up to 8 hours. You have everything you need in one simple product;

*Healthy: the Ruby Cups are made from 100% medical-grade, soft silicone and are free from plastics, latex, toxins and bleaches. As they collect, but don't absorb the menstrual flow, the vaginal flora stays intact;

*Life-changing: we call it the ‘Buy One, Give One’ programme. For every cup we sell, we’ll donate one to a girl or woman without access to menstrual care product.
Enjoy the freedom of a period without limits with Ruby Cup. Created with first-time users in mind, our Ruby Cup’s a planet-friendly, reusable solution to single use tampons and pads.

Made from medical-grade silicone, Ruby Cup’s flexible and seamless design makes it easy to use, even for beginners.

Our cups give comfortable, reliable and leak-proof period protection for up to 12 hours, day and night, whatever your plans. Voted best cup for sports by Women’s Running Awards 2024.

Yes! During menopause, your periods may become heavier or lighter, or become irregular. Ruby Cups are perfect for dealing with all these changes as they are flexible.
Your Ruby Cup has a higher capacity than disposable products, so can manage a heavy flow with ease and because menstrual cups collect your flow instead of absorbing it, you can wear a cup during a light flow, or when you are spotting with no risk of irritation or dryness.
Using a Ruby Cup eliminates the need to buy a variety of other menstrual products and gives you the freedom to enjoy a varied lifestyle without menstrual worries.
Yes. The Ruby Cup is a great menstrual product to use for a heavy flow, as it has a much higher capacity than tampons or pads, and can hold more menstrual flow. This means fewer bathroom trips! The medium sized Ruby Cup has the same capacity as 3 super tampons. We recommend using one if you have a heavy flow or during heavy days.
Physically, there is no reason why a virgin cannot use a cup. If your hymen (the thin membrane which partially covers the opening of your vagina) is still intact then using a Ruby Cup may not be as easy.
When starting to use Ruby Cup as a virgin, it might be easier to start with our Ruby Cup Small.
Using a cup may stretch or tear the hymen. Your hymen can also be stretched or torn through sports such as riding a bike, and this is very normal. Some cultures and religions require an intact hymen before marriage, and may not agree with the use of a menstrual cup. If this is not an issue for you, your family or your religion, then using a Ruby Cup is no problem – just take time to find a comfortable way to insert.

Note: Using Ruby Cup when you are a virgin can affect your hymen but that does not mean that you will lose your virginity! You only lose your virginity after your first sexual intercourse – no matter whether your hymen was torn before.
Ruby Cups are made from 100% medical-grade premium silicone and are blissfully free from plastics, latex, toxins and bleaches. You can care for your body, all while knowing that the product you’re using is completely harmless.
Ruby Cups collect menstrual blood instead of absorbing it like a tampon. This means that they do not disrupt your vagina’s natural bacteria balance. The vagina is a wonderful mechanism that is self-cleansing and continually produces natural lubricants that “flush” the vagina. Tampons absorb this protective fluid and can disrupt the natural balance.
Many tampons and pads also contain chemicals, perfumes and bleaches, so they can appear white and hygienic – but these additives are not healthy for your body.
Your cup must be disinfected before storing each month. Rinse your cup, and boil in a pan or pot of water for 3 minutes. If you do not want to use a pot for disinfecting, you can use our Ruby Clean for boiling in the microwave or oven.
After boiling, wait until your cup is cool, dry thoroughly and store in the organic cotton bag that came with your Ruby Cup.
When boiling your Ruby Cup, make sure you don’t over boil it (no more than 10 minutes), otherwise the silicone will lose some of its bounciness and not open up so easily anymore when inserted, hence leading to potential troubles with leaking.
Always start with clean hands. While on your period, there is no need to disinfect your cup between uses. Simply rinse it with water each time you empty it, before using it again. Tip: use bottled water if you are in a public bathroom with no sink. If this is not possible then just wipe it clean with a tissue.
Avoid fragranced soaps that may alter the pH of your vagina.
Through our partnerships with NGOs, we extend cup donations worldwide, positively impacting lives across the globe.

When you buy a cup, a portion of our proceeds is allocated to purchasing another cup for donation to someone in need worldwide. Although the donated cup holds the same value as the one you purchase, we reduce our profit margin to produce and donate an additional cup.
