Our Partners

Our partners are at the core of our Buy One Give One programme, our joint goal is to have a long term positive effect in the lives of girls and women.

Together we ensure that the programme participants enjoy the full benefits of using Ruby Cup and 10 years of worry-free periods.

Ruby Cup provides girls in east Africa with menstrual cups so that they can stay in school

Our sustainability guidelines

  • Educational workshop. We teach the new users about reproductive health, menstrual care and how use Ruby Cup. We aim to bring down taboos, shame and harmful beliefs surrounding menstruation and hopefully help girls and women make better choices about their bodies.
  • Sustained support. New users, specially younger ones, are likely to need some help and support during the first few cycles they use Ruby Cup. We make sure that an experienced user is available and ready to answer any questions.
  • Access to water. To use Ruby Cup safely, the user must have access to enough water to wash her hands and to boil Ruby Cup for 5 minutes in between periods. We always check that the right facilities are in place.

Ruby Cup and Femme Internation Menstrual Cup Distribution in North Mathare

Our amazing donation partners:

Golden Girls Foundation

Golden Girls Foundations provides girls in East Africa with Ruby Cup Menstrual Cups so that they can stay in school.

When we first met Golda Ayodo Obera in 2012, we were swept away by her passion and commitment to empower girls and women in their community. Golda founded Golden Girls Foundation (GGF) together with her husband Ben with the vision of empowering women and creating socio-economically sustainable communities. Their motto is “empower the girl for a better society” with a number of projects that include water programmes, women’s empowerment centres, literacy clubs and of course, menstrual hygiene.

GGF has been our strategic donation partner in Western Kenya since 2013. They are distributing thousands of Ruby Cups through their holistic training programme creating a wide geographical impact towards keeping girls in school.

Femme International

Girl in Mathare holding a Ruby Cup that she received from Femme International as part of her Femme Kit. For better period solutions for girls in poverty.

We met Sabrina Rubli and Ella Marinic, founders of Femme International in April 2013. They wanted to purchase a small amount of Ruby Cups for a pilot distribution in Mathare, Nairobi and are now one of our main donation partners. We partnered with Femme International in September 2014 and they have since then distributed Femme Kits that include Ruby Cup in both Kenya and Tanzania.

We share Femme International’s enthusiasm for sustainable periods and their holistic approach. They put high importance on the topic of menstrual health and hygiene as a tool to empower girls and support them to stay in school and achieve an education.

WoMena

Womena wrote one of the first reports on the acceptability of menstrual cups, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society in Uganda in December 2012. Ruby Cup donated the cups for the study and we have since then worked with founder Marianne Tellier and the Womena team on a number of distribution programmes in Uganda.

Womena aims to ensure that research on reproductive health is systematically applied and that evidence-based, effective, reproductive health technologies and innovative solutions are explored and supported. They are experts on designing menstrual cup intervention programmes and we share their goal to offer girls and women information and choice when it comes to reproductive health and menstrual hygiene.
